News Corp. has a new 10-inch educational tablet called Amplify that’s just $300. Do tablets have a place in education? It would certainly seem so, and the tab, which will come with Google Apps for Education, a Dictionary and graphic calculator preloaded, will try to squeeze into classrooms of the future.

It certainly looks like it can take some abuse, and it sports a nice bright exterior to give it that playful vibe. The tab will launch at SXSWedu, and come in a Wi-Fi-only model that will run for $300 with $100 two-year subscription to educational services. There will also be a 4G model for $350.

“We understand technology and we understand education,” said News Corp’s Joel Klein. “A lot of people who understand technology don’t understand education.”

There are features embedded within the tablet that help foster a more positive and fun learning environment. Amplify with have curriculum and training materials pre-loaded composed by former teachers, along with features that attempt to keep students interested in learning.
