Facebook, which purchased Instagram earlier this year, has officially stopped supporting the ability for other Twitter users to easily view the photos. In other words, Facebook deactivated a feature of Twitter called “Twitter Cards” that allows other users on the social network to see photos or other media embedded directly in their stream.
AllThingsD confirmed the changes with Facebook on Sunday. Twitter also posted a brief message explaining Instagram’s change of heart. ““Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter,” the company said. “As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries. While tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible, you can no longer view the photos on Twitter, as was previously the case.”
It seems like a bummer, certainly, but Twitter is also allegedly working on a competitor to Instagram that is expected to roll out next year.
