With new hardware that highlights just how processor-intensive the Web is today, the Samsung Series 5 550 will launch with a brand new and hugely upgraded version of Chrome OS on June 15th.
New had leaked earlier in the year that Samsung would be using higher-end processors and there had already been previews of the multi-windows Chrome OS but it’s great to see it all come together. June 15th is the date for your Google Calendar.
The Samsung Series 5 550 specs are as follows:
- 12.1″ matt screen. 1280×800 300nit brightness
- 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron 867
- 4GB of RAM
- 16GB Internal storage
- SD card reader
- 2x USB 2.0
- Display Port

- Headset Port
- Weight 3.02lbs (1.36 Kg)

Booting in 7 seconds and coming out of standby in 1 second, it challenges SSD-based Ultrabooks for speed of getting to work. With automatic upgrades requiring zero wait-time and a partitioned OS, there’s a lot to be said for small businesses here. Educational use too.
